Children at infant and primary schools across Clacton are being given
the chance to make their mark in the history of the town’s pier.
They are being invited to put together a short text about what they love
about Clacton Pier to be included in a time capsule to be buried in a £4
million development being carried out at the landmark site.
A lighthouse is to be constructed as part of the new Skull Point
adventure golf course and the capsule will be put into the feature.
Other items from the Pier will also be included and a special ceremony
will be staged next month.
Ewelina Majewska, the Pier’s Operations Manager, said that the aim is to
involve youngsters from the town in the scheme.
“We know that schools are always looking for projects to help bring
history to life and we felt this was a way of doing that,” she said.
“The idea is for each school to send in a short text of what is special
about the Pier to their pupils and it will be included in the capsule which
could be discovered many years in the future.
“We would like a few paragraphs from one class signed by the pupils and
their teacher – and it could include a drawing or illustration.
“A boy and a girl from the class with the best entry will then be
invited to the Pier to attend the ceremony in May.”
