It was eggstra special family fun in the sun over Easter with a solid stream of visitors heading to Clacton Pier.

The four day break pulled in the punters who made the most of the attraction and all that was on offer.

Rides were open for 17 consecutive days, a giant Easter Bunny thrilled the children, there was free live music and a popular egg trail for all ages. A free annual rides pass was given away each day for those who found the golden egg.

The weekend drew towards its end with a real bang when the first free fireworks display of the year was staged at the seaward end of the site watched by hundreds of pyrotechnic fans.

The next extravaganza will take place on May 4.

The town enjoyed better weather compared to many other parts of the country, apart from light drizzle on Sunday evening but it brightened up again on Monday.

General Manager Harry Peek said that it was a good way to kick off the season.

“We had very little rain to speak of and plenty of sunshine with a few chilly winds,” he explained.

“People visited us in the normal numbers and it was great to see so many out and about enjoying their time with us.

“Families are being cautious with their cash and that is totally understandable with the pressures they are facing on their finances.

“It was a promising start to our busier period but this Easter was no record breaker.”

To help families out, an annual rides pass sale for £40 starts on April 22 with a third off the normal £60 until the end of the month.

Mr Peek also praised the pier’s team, some of whom were new recruits, for looking after customers and making them feel welcome.
