A popular seaside attraction is preparing for its free Guy Fawkes
fireworks extravaganza this weekend following a bumper Halloween Festival.

Clacton Pier is staging two displays on Saturday (November 6) which will
be put on at the far end of the structure.

The first will be held at about 6pm – aimed especially for those who are
unable to stay up until the later event at around 9pm.

The displays are being arranged as normal by Dynamic Fireworks of
Colchester.

Pier director Billy Ball said the idea is to ensure all ages are catered
for and no one misses out on the fun.

“We introduced two displays a few years ago and the idea went down very
well so we have decided to keep that format,” he said.

“Fireworks fans are quite welcome to stay and watch both if they want to,
but we were aware that 9pm was a bit late for the younger audience.

Mr Ball said the pier has just enjoyed a bumper Halloween Festival which
was well-attended throughout the nine days.

“We were very lucky with the weather during half term and that made all
the difference.”

Mr Ball added that about 1,800 pumpkins were needed in the pumpkin patch
and the remains – along with the straw – will be heading off to Colchester Zoo.

“We delivered a lorry load to the zoo last time, and it was well
received so we are doing the same again,” he said. “It saves any waste and
helps another business in the leisure and hospitality industry.”

The new Looping Star roller coaster, which opened on the first day of
the festival, proved a huge draw with excellent feedback from visitors.

The pier is already preparing for its exciting Christmas activities
which will include Santa’s Grotto and the North Pole Experience running from
November 29 to December 23. For further details and to book online visit
