Jubilee celebrations went with a real bang at Clacton Pier as thousands turned out in force to enjoy the fun.

Families packed the seaside attraction for a free fireworks extravaganza and many more watched the display from the seafront.

The entire attraction was decked out in Union Flags and bunting while the pier’s lighting remained red, white, and blue across the four-day bank holiday.

Special cakes were baked to mark the occasion and given out to all those who were customers in Discovery Bay soft play.

Pier director Billy Ball said it was a memorable celebration and locals and visitors made the most of what was on offer.

“We were fortunate that the weather stayed dry and in the most part warm despite an indifferent forecast,” he said.

“We put on plenty of live entertainment for all ages and it was great to see everyone enjoying themselves for an event we are unlikely to ever witness again. It was a fitting tribute to a Queen who has served her country loyally for 70 years.”

The next event on the pier will be an Emergency Services weekend on June 18 and 19.

There will be four free family wristbands on offer for those frontline workers in the Police, Fire, Ambulance, RNLI and Coastguard providing unlimited free rides.

Those wanting to attend will need to show a valid work ID card.

Mr Ball added: “This is our way of saying thank you to all those people who do so much for us every single day. This is an opportunity for them to have to have some fun with their families.”

The attraction will remain open to all other paying customers over that weekend.

As June 19 is Father’s Day there is also a free game of bowling and cup of coffee for every dad.
