A dazzling double display of fireworks brought the crowds flocking to Clacton Pier.

Families ignored the rain and wind on Saturday to turn out in force for the final free extravaganza of the year at the popular seaside attraction.

There was one display at 6pm for those who could not stay up until later in the evening, and this was followed by the main event at 9pm.

The fireworks were let off at the far end of the structure by Dynamic Fireworks of Colchester with people gathered by the Jolly Roger, and many more watching from vantage points along the seafront.

Pier director Billy Ball was delighted by the turnout and said that he was pleased to see all ages having fun.

“The double display for Guy Fawkes goes down really well as we can cater for the toddlers who cannot wait until 9pm,” he said.

“Some stayed on to watch both and there was a great atmosphere all night.

“Unfortunately, there was a bit of rain about for the earlier display but then it cleared up and overall, we were very lucky with the weather.”

The rides stayed open until 10pm and there was free live music in the Boardwalk Bar and Grill provided by SMC.

“We have put on eight free fireworks extravaganzas in 2021 – with six staged in the school summer holidays - to thank all our loyal customers for all their support this year,” added Mr Ball.

For the rest of the winter rides will be open at weekends weather permitting. Check social media before travelling.

The next big event will be the pier’s Christmas activities which will include Santa’s Grotto and the North Pole Experience running from November 29 to December 23. For further details and to book online visit www.clactonpier.co.uk
